Geotab launched a free add-in to its driver mobile app to help truckers navigate the coronavirus landscape, the company announced Aug. 6.
COVID Guardian helps drivers by featuring information related to the pandemic in one place. That includes where drivers can find food and parking. Geotab Drive mobile app users will get the service as part of an update.
“Truckers continued to maintain their pace, transporting essential goods across the country,” Scott Sutarik, Geotab vice president of commercial vehicle solutions, said in a statement. “One of the biggest issues that truckers have faced during this time is that the routes they were accustomed to pre-pandemic have been riddled with ever-changing closures, hours of operation, regulations and more.”
COVID Guardian has a section for sanitation, which shows drivers which restrooms are open and their revised hours of operation. The food options sections helps them find grocery stores, places to eat and online ordering options with revised hours of operation. It also helps drivers find parking.
In addition, the app updates drivers on regulations related to the coronavirus pandemic. This feature will keep them informed on the changing rules including establishment hours of operations and commercial driver license certifications. It includes data for every state.
COVID Guardian includes a state filter for finding specific updates as well as updates for the nearest states. The app also features a feedback tool to provide drivers with information as it pertains to the accuracy of regulations not specifically related to the coronavirus.
Geotab is not the first technology company to update or release mobile apps intended to help trucking companies and drivers during the coronavirus.
Transflo launched a suite of free digital tools March 25 to help fleets starting in the early days of the crisis. Trucker Tools updated its digital load-tracking and freight-matching app services to help drivers find places to eat amid many truck stops closing.
