Penske Truck Leasing announced that dedicated fleet services company Black Horse Carriers has joined its electric vehicle program.
Penske and Daimler have worked together to put more electric trucks on the road, and the Freightliner eCascadia is a fully battery-electric Class 8 truck produced by Daimler Trucks North America.
“We are rolling these electric units out to customers more quickly and efficiently now that we have some experience under our belts,” Paul Rosa, senior vice president of procurement and fleet planning at Penske, said in a statement. “Our mission is to continue to put these innovative units in the hands of customers who have the right use cases, so we can learn together and continue to promote sustainability in the form of electrification.”
Penske said integration into the fleet was seamless and feedback from drivers has been positive. Black Horse Carriers uses the electric truck throughout Southern California to deliver products to 78 stores. The truck runs six days a week with four delivery points per day.
“We’re excited to add electric vehicles to our fleet,” Fleet Manager Brad Kacsh said in a statement. “Whether it’s the latest safety technology, improving the driver experience or reducing our carbon footprint, building an innovative fleet is part of the Black Horse culture. We’re thrilled to be running this tractor, and the feedback from our field has been excellent.”
Black Horse Carriers ranks No. 61 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America and No. 33 on the Transport Topics Top 50 list of the largest logistics companies.
Penske supports electric truck fleets by operating a network of heavy-duty electric vehicle charging stations at six facilities throughout Southern California. The leasing and logistics company also performs preventive maintenance at those locations.
DTNA and Penske announced their partnership in 2018. They have since implemented and tested commercial electric trucks from the Freightliner brand in real-world situations.
Penske Logistics ranks No. 15 on the for-hire TT100 and No. 8 on the TT Top 50.
