Amazon eyes entrance to trucking, report says

According to Business Insider writer Eugene Kim, there’s an “800-pound gorilla” the trucking industry needs to pay attention to: Amazon’s potential interest in entering trucking by way of a freight-matching platform.

Unlike other companies attempting to “uberize” trucking, Amazon brings to the table a critical mass of freight, already moving through the company’s distribution centers.

Amazon declined to comment to Business Insider on Kim’s assertions. Here’s how Kim described the potential Amazon platform:

The app will offer real-time pricing and driving directions, as well as personalized features such as truck-stop recommendations and a suggested “tour” of loads to pick up and drop off. It could also have tracking and payment options to speed up the entire shipping process.
